Local Beauty Member Spotlight Mercedes Lundberg Brazilian Specialist and Owner of Sweet Peach Body Bar @sweetpeachbodybar
Ok you guys. If it seems like I'm a bit obsessed with this chicky, well that's because I AM. I am very lucky to call this girl a good friend. I'm SO excited to introduce you to her, because I KNOW you will love her too.
Mercedes has quickly become a well known sugarist in not just Leduc (the home of Sweet Peach Body Bar), but also in Edmonton. In just over a year she has been able to take her business full time and out of her home studio. Everyone who walks through her doors is treated like a friend-- she goes above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and relaxed (who knew you could be in such a state while getting your who-ha sugared!).
I find it so rare to find people who are stay true to who they SAY they are, and Mercedes is just that. She believes in body positivity, acceptance and compassion towards all humans, and community over competition (our other good friend is another sugaring tech!). It's one thing to say you have these values and to use them in your branding, but this girl lives them. Psst. If you're wanting to know more about sugaring, here's a link to her blog on why you should always be sugaring, even in the winter months!
Q + A
How did you get into sugaring, and why did you stay in the industry?
My cousin had let me know about a front desk position at a sugar shop she worked at in Winnipeg back when I was in university and becoming quite tired of bartending. My boss had
asked me after I had started if I was interested in also learning how to sugar and I figured “Why the heck not? Let’s give it a try!”. I ended up LOVING it. When I made the plan to move to Alberta, I decided to take a go at starting my own business and didn’t return to University. I was terrified to fail, especially with a huge lack of knowledge in the business department, but I am so glad I took the risk. Building a business during a pandemic has certainly not been the most ideal situation, but my clients make everything worth it. The beauty industry in general out here in Alberta is such an incredible community and I can’t imagine my life any differently. I am incredibly grateful for all of the connections I’ve made along the way.
What would you say to all the women out there who are feeling a little shy to get a Brazilian done?
Just remember that I have seen it all! Hundreds and hundreds of wonderful women have walked through my door feeling shy about their first Brazilian experience – and I pride myself in being able to help anyone through it to walk back out feeling sassy and bad-assy. I promise it’s not nearly as scary as it may seem. You’ll be so glad you booked and you’ll never want to touch a razor again!
What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?
Holy moly I have so many goals! The main one would be to open up the first Body Sugaring salon here in Leduc and hopefully a second location in Edmonton very shortly after. There are so many other plans that I have but those are a surprise for the future hehe.
What is something you wish people knew about you?
That I feel everything very deeply. Like - insanely, lol. It can certainly be a positive thing but it does also make some parts of life a little bit too intense but I love myself the way that I am.
Who do you look up to and why?
If I had to pick just one I’d have to say Courtney Buhler. I absolutely love everything about her. Her passion for her business, her creativity around it, her hard work and dedication, her strength and confidence in knowing what she wants. I aspire to get to where she is not only in her entrepreneurial success but her confidence. In the sugaring world instead of the lashing world, of course!
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I feel as though one of my strengths is being able to help my clients feel comfortable. Your first Brazilian can be super intimidating and I am confident that I can turn a seemingly scary and awkward situation into something fun and empowering. One of my weaknesses is definitely overthinking and in turn getting overwhelmed quite easily. I take on a lot and then end up needing to take a huge break. It’s a challenge trying to find work-life balance as an entrepreneur but I have been introducing new boundaries lately and I’m learning what works for me one day at a time! One day (soon) I’ll begin to hire out and lighten the load on myself.
THANK YOU for doing this blog with me, Mercedes. I am so excited for your future and to do all the things. I have the utmost confidence that you will reach your goals in no time. GET IT GIRL. I feel so proud and grateful to call you a friend. ❤️
