Sarah and her BFF, Cass, own La Belle Couleur together, which is located out of My Loft Studios on Whyte Ave. Sarah has been a hairstylist for the past 17 years. She dove right into hairstyling after she graduated high school, and she still continues with her education today. In fact, Sarah has been working on doing some educating herself!

My momma is lucky enough to be one of Sarah's clients. She loves the space, how knowledgeable Sarah is, and how easy it is to talk with her. My mom had decided to embrace her grey hair and was super nervous about it. Sarah made her feel comfortable and confident with beginning the process of going from dark brunette to lightened hair that blended with the greys.

I LOVE Sarah's instagram page. She engages with her followers, shows us some of the behind the scenes of her life and biz, and educates us with her tutorials (I'm a sucker for tutorials, anyone else?- Pssst. I added one of Sarah's tutorials at the end of this blog.) Instagram is an amazing way to build trust and to grow your relationships with your clients outside of the salon- and Sarah does this so well! She's also amazing at supporting other local boss babes in the beauty industry.

Q & A

How did you get into the beauty industry? And! You are so amazing at doing your own makeup! Have you ever thought about becoming a MUA?!

I always knew I wanted to be a hairstylist from the time I was about five years old. I use to brush everyone’s hair that would let me for hours. As soon as I graduated high school, I went straight to hair school and 17 yrs later here I am !  I actually have thought about getting into make up , but the time and finances for courses just haven’t worked out just yet. Maybe one day, at this point it is more of a hobby. What is some advice you could give someone looking to start their own business in the hair/beauty industry?

It won’t be easy, nothing worth having ever is ! Don’t compare yourself to others, work hard, stay focused and surround yourself with people who inspire you. Besides the beauty industry, what are you passionate about?  Family , to me there is nothing more important. I am the glue in my family always making sure we stay strong and connected.

Who is someone that inspires you?

I recently watched the Netflix series about the life or Madam C.J. Walker and was very inspired by her and her story. Despite all the things that were thrown at her she didn’t give up, kept fighting and came out on top!

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

My biggest strength is my determination/stubbornness, when I get something in my head nothing can stop me. My biggest weakness is I’m an over thinker and super insecure which sometimes takes over me. Thankfully I have an amazing support system who helps me get through it.

Sarah, thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions! I know you are probably so busy homeschooling your kiddos AND trying to get ready to reopen, so I really appreciate it. I loved getting to know you better over this past year, and during this blog. You are so passionate about the hair/beauty industry and I love how hard you work on and in your business. You are an amazing role model for your kiddos.
