Local Beauty Member Spotlight: Samantha Owner/Operator of Brau Haus
Updated: Oct 10, 2019
Owner/operator of Brau Haus
Samantha entered the beauty industry as a makeup artist 15 years ago. Her particular obsession was eyebrows, which lead into a career in the PMU world, specifically in brows. She is multi-certified and offers a variety of different brow services- microblading, henna, micropigmentation, and brow lamination (my new obsession!). Samantha creates the perfect shape for each individual face, and leaves such a gorgeous natural looking brow. She truly is a brow wiz.
I absolutely loved doing a little Q&A with Samantha. I had planned on using her answers to write up a few paragraphs from it; however, after reading it I felt like a more organic way of getting to know her was to leave it as is.
What is your favourite thing about being a PMU artist/brow wiz?
Sam: Without a doubt it’s being able to change people’s lives it and how they perceive themselves on the outside.
Can you share some advice for someone looking to get into the PMU world? How did you get to the place you are today owning and operating your own busy studio?
Sam: Continue to learn, this industry is so vast and there is always something new or another artist that can teach you something different. And keep practicing; it really does make a huge difference in your work.
How do you juggle mom life and business life? Any advice for other mom boss babes out there?
Sam: Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing a very good job with juggling act but I try to set boundaries to help balance my home and work life. I still find myself working on my days off so it is still a work in progress. I also have an amazing and supportive partner and mother who continually help me out and push me to keep achieving my goals.
What would you say your strengths are and your weaknesses? (business or personal, anything you’d like to share!)
My strength and often my area of development is being too sensitive. It makes a compassionate person but I also take things pretty personally too. I’m always working on balancing that.
Who is someone you look up to? (PMU world or otherwise!)
I look up to so many people in this industry. Notably Alberta has a lot of innovative and successful artists and trainers and I hope to be among the ranks someday.
Above all, I look up to my Mom. She is such a caretaker, always putting others needs ahead of her own. She does so much for our family; it’s so admirable and has taught me so much about what it is to be a mother and a daughter.
Besides the beauty industry, what is something else you are passionate about?
Aside from my son and family, I’ve always been very passionate about music; it’s always been a big part of my life. I’m vegan and care very deeply about animals. And I’m kind of a houseplant enthusiast.
I recently visited the Brau Haus to get my eye brows laminated by Sam. First of all, if you have naturally full brows, I highly recommend trying this new service! It was a game changer for me. Second of all, Sam was so incredibly sweet, knowledgable, professional and so easy to talk to. I enjoyed my time with her so much, and she really is a gift from the brow gods.
Sam, I loved getting to know you more. You have such a kind spirit, and you’re an amazing mama, daughter, spouse and artist. You own a studio and business, you have amazing talent, you're an educator and this is all while being a new mama. That is no small feat, girl. I know you will do great things. Heck, you already are! And thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions.
